INTRODUCING MORE ABSTRACT WORK
This show gives me the opportunity to show new abstract paintings that became a significant part of my "practice" in the last 3 years. For most of the last decade I've been best known for realism, painting Marin waterscapes and landscapes, both en plein air and larger studio pieces. What's not to like about those options? There will always be a hook for me in the local beauty we find around us everyday in this part of the world. Nevertheless, abstraction has been working its way into my heart, and it's been a pleasure to delve into this new territory. |

(NOVEMBER & DECEMBER)
This fall, I'm honored to have a return solo exhibit at the First Valley in Inverness for most of November, including Point Reyes Open Studios over the Thanksgiving weekend. In addition to rotating monthly art exhibits in its gallery, this charming shop offers beautifully curated gifts and housewares, many of them hand-crafted. I've also been invited as a guest artist to join the Baywood Artists for their December show. These painters find inspiration in the great outdoors, often painting together, in nature, throughout west and southern Marin County. The group focuses its attention this year on the lands protected from development through the work of Caroline Sealy Livermore. These include: Mt. Tamalpais, the Marin Headlands, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Stinson Beach, Tomales Bay State Parks, Angel Island and Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The December show will be at the Marin Art and Garden Center, another location with an important connection to Caroline Livermore. If you'd enjoy seeing a variety of painting styles showcasing our beautiful area, you won't want to miss this special show. |

Nicasio - what a fun venue !
The Nicasio Historical Society sponsored a great 4-month-long, fund-raising paint-out for 22 artists, virtually all of them plein air painters, and arranged for us to have access to several private or remote ranches or properties all over Nicasio. Result: over 250 pieces of art were presented to the public, starting with a classy opening reception October 13. Proceeds go toward the repair/maintenance of the beautiful little St. Mary's church familiar to everyone who's ever been through Nicasio. She's celebrating her 150th anniversary this year!

Larger works recently delivered to Toad Fish Gallery
(downtown Sausalito):
This wonderful dory is in one of the Sausalito spots I visit repeatedly to see what some of my favorite subjects are up to. She's tied up in the lee of a live-aboard next to the very picturesque "Potato Chip" houseboat, (partially) seen to the left. Sometimes with several inches of rainwater in her, no oars to be found, the roughly painted cobalt blue interior always catches my eye. |
*Sausalito gallery now carries my work (2017-18)
Eight or more of my paintings are usually on display at the TOAD FISH GALLERY, just 3 doors south of the lovely fountain in downtown Sausalito, at 686 Bridgeway. This gallery specializes exclusively in the work of local artists. 20+ pieces have sold through Toadfish since June including:

Under the Influence - a blog
A unusually large percentage of the pieces completed while taking two classes with Chester Arnold at the College of Marin last fall made me particularly happy. Because they're so different from my usual style or approach I've posted them in a section on this site unto themselves - "Miwokstudio122". In one class which Chester's particularly well-known for, Materials and Techniques, we made our own paints - oils, casein, tempera, watercolor, starting with dry pigments, and created all sorts of paintings, including works in the style of, or studies of, Velasquez and Rothko... Continued More work from those two classes
ANOTHER GALLERY ADDED: Sketches and Water-based Media
Travels to Turkey and Marblehead, MA this past summer, where I packed light and left my oils at home.
NEW GALLERY ADDED TO SITE
New territory's been explored in the last year, resulting in an additional gallery - "Non-representational".

The 1st Annual Sausalito Artists Show over Labor Day Weekend was great fun and a new opportunity for 50+ local artists who couldn't afford or who were turned away from exhibiting in the well-known Sausalito Art Festival (which had their 59th annual show over the same weekend just 3 blocks away). The free show was held at and sponsored by the SeaHorse Restaurant on Harbor Drive (in their parking lot) and included live music each of the 3 days. The show's fun, funkiness, diversity and affordability had many visitors commenting on how it reminded them of the early days of the Festival, and its timing gave an excuse to dub it the Guerilla Art Show. Renegade or not, this artist looks forward to participating again next year.
